How can I get my child involved in golf?

The best way to start playing golf is as part of a good coaching program at a local golf club, driving range, golf centre, or a club on a school site or community centre. It is very rare that children receive quality coaching with good supervision ratios at school, unless the school has a regular after-school program.

In addition to a good training and coaching program, there are a variety of ways to introduce your child to the game of golf:

  • Accompany friends or relatives to driving range
  • Attend local golf tournaments
  • Watch golf on television
  • Collect information from local golf clubs about junior programs
  • Consider schools that include golf in their curriculum
  • Caddie for a relative at a fun club event
  • Check community centre bulletin boards and flyers for after-school, weekend and summer golf programs
  • How do I know if my club is any good?

  • How often can children play?

  • How will my child progress?

  • Why get involved?
